You will understand how funds are secured and released during a licensing transaction. Verro™ Escrow protects both the eyewitness and the newsroom by ensuring funds are available before a licence is granted, and only releasing those funds once the cryptographic transfer is complete.

Bidding and Locking Funds

When you place a bid on an asset through the Newsroom Terminal, the funds are immediately locked in escrow. Bids must fall within the platform’s strictly enforced bounds of £5.00 to £1,000,000.00. While the funds are locked, the eyewitness receives a guaranteed offer, but they cannot access the capital, and you cannot access the unwatermarked media.

Atomic Settlement

The settlement process is atomic. When an eyewitness accepts an offer:
  1. The system generates a Digital Deed and anchors it to the blockchain.
  2. The Verro™ Escrow automatically releases the locked funds to the eyewitness.
  3. The Newsroom Terminal unlocks the high-resolution, broadcast-ready asset for the agency.
If a transaction fails at any point before the deed is anchored, the escrow reverses the lock, returning the capital to the agency. The Verro™ Escrow Protocol guarantees transactional fairness for both parties: newsrooms never pay for fraudulent or unverified footage, and eyewitnesses are guaranteed instant payment upon delivering the authenticated camera master.

2. Atomic Settlement Function (Escrow Execution Protocol)

When an offer is accepted by the creator, the PostgreSQL RPC function Escrow Execution Protocol executes an atomic transaction:
  1. State Validation: Checks that the offer status is pending and the time lock has not expired (now() < expires_at).
  2. License Grant: Generates a record in License Registry binding the newsroom identity to commercial broadcast usage.
  3. Deed Minting: Issues a Verro™ Digital Deed containing the SHA-256 master hash and Base L2 ledger reference.
  4. Fund Disbursement: Transitions creator balance in Settlement Ledger to available for immediate Secure Settlement Gateway.
